About the Collection
Our bedding collection is built around a simple idea: in Indian homes, the bed is the main event. You sleep on it, you sit on it, and for much of the day it’s what you see. So we designed a collection where every layer feels good, looks beautiful and suits the way we actually live.
Designed in collaboration with Shambhavi of Studio ST, the collection draws on Indian block-print traditions: floral trellises, arched buta borders, tulips, pomegranates and cypress. The prints come in three colourways, teal, mauve and terracotta, and run across the whole collection, so your layers can work together or stand on their own.
The collection includes bedsheets, duvet covers, dohars, bedcovers and cushions, designed to match so you can dress the entire bed in one look. Start with crisp percale bedsheets, add a light reversible dohar or a duvet cover, finish with a printed jute-cotton bedcover, and tie it together with cushions in solid colours.
Frequently Asked Questions
Bedsheets
1. What is the difference between a fitted and a flat bed sheet?
A fitted sheet has elasticated corners that hold it snugly around the mattress, so it stays in place through the night. A flat sheet is a plain rectangle that you tuck in, and it drapes over the sides of the bed, showing off more of the print. All our bedsheets come in both, in queen and king size.
2. What is a good thread count for bed sheets?
Higher is not automatically better. Thread count is the number of threads woven into a square inch of fabric, and very high numbers are often reached with thinner, multi-ply yarns. The quality of the cotton, the yarn and the weave matter just as much. We chose 300 TC percale to keep the fabric smooth, durable and breathable.
3. What size is a queen and a king bed sheet?
In India, a standard double bed usually takes a queen. Our queen sheets measure 92” x 108” and our king sheets measure 108” x 108”.
4. Which bed sheets are the coolest for Indian summers?
Cotton percale. Its simple one-over, one-under weave lets air through and gives the fabric a cool, matte feel, and cotton absorbs moisture from the skin instead of trapping it. Sateen sleeps slightly warmer and microfibre much warmer.
5. What is percale, and will it feel soft?
Percale is a weave, not a type of cotton. It feels crisp and fresh when new, like a good hotel sheet, rather than silky. With every wash the fibres relax and the sheet gets softer, while keeping its crisp character. Crisp does not mean rough.
6. How do I choose a good cotton bed sheet?
No single number decides it. The cotton, the yarn, the weave, the weight (GSM), the thread count and the finishing all work together. A heavy, dense sheet can feel lovely in a cold climate and stuffy in a humid one, so for most of India a light, breathable cotton layer works best through the year.
7. How often should I wash it?
About once a week. Cotton absorbs sweat and body oils every night, so wash more often in hot or humid weather, if you sweat at night, have allergies, or sleep with pets. Pillowcases are worth changing more often, since they pick up skin oils and hair products.
Dohars
1. What is a dohar?
A dohar is a lightweight, layered cotton blanket. Its warmth comes from air trapped between thin layers of fabric rather than from a thick filling, so it keeps you comfortable without the weight of a blanket or quilt. Traditional dohars use fine mul cotton, which is soft, airy and breathable.
2. What is a dohar used for?
It is the layer between a bedsheet and a blanket. Use it on warm nights when you like being covered, in humid weather, and in air-conditioned rooms. It is light enough that you never feel trapped under it, and gives just enough warmth when the room cools around 3 or 4 am.
3. Is a dohar the same as an AC blanket?
Essentially, yes. Long before "AC blanket" became a term, the dohar solved the same problem: a night that starts warm and gets cooler as the AC runs. Keep it folded at the foot of the bed and pull it over you when you need it.
4. Why are your dohars made of mul cotton?
Mul is a fine, lightweight, closely woven cotton made for warm weather. Air moves through it, it absorbs moisture, and it stays soft against the skin. Because it is so light, several layers come together without bulk, which is what gives a dohar its warmth through layering, not weight.
5. Can I use a dohar in winter and during the monsoon?
Yes. On cooler evenings and in mild winters it may be all you need, and in colder months you can layer it under a quilt or rajai. In the monsoon, cotton handles humidity better than heavy or synthetic blankets, and a dohar is light enough to wash and dry easily even when drying space is short.
6. What is the difference between a dohar and a comforter?
A dohar is made of thin layers of cotton: light, breathable and easy to wash. A comforter has a filling of fibre, down or polyester sewn inside: bulkier, warmer, and harder to wash without affecting the filling. A dohar suits Indian weather and AC rooms; a comforter suits colder nights.
Bed covers
1. What is the difference between a bed sheet and a bed cover?
You sleep on a bed sheet. A bed cover goes on top of it during the day, usually over the pillows as well, to keep the bed looking finished and the bedding underneath clean. Think of it as the layer that dresses the bed rather than one you sleep in.
2. Why do I need a bed cover?
It keeps dust off your bedsheet and pillows during the day, which helps if anyone at home has allergies. It also pulls the room together, adds colour and pattern if you prefer to sleep on plain sheets, and lets you change the look of the room without changing all your bedding.
3. Is a bed cover the same as a bedspread or a coverlet?
The terms overlap, and brands use them loosely. A bed cover or bedspread usually covers the whole bed, pillows included. A coverlet is lighter and more tailored, and is often laid from the foot or middle of the bed with the pillows showing.
4. Can I use a bed cover as a blanket?
It can add a light layer on a cool night, but a bed cover is mainly decorative and protective. For sleeping under, a dohar gives light warmth and a quilt or blanket gives more.
5. Why are your bed covers made of jute cotton?
A bed cover needs more body than a bedsheet, so it falls well and holds its shape. Cotton brings softness and breathability, and jute adds natural texture and strength. The texture also gives our prints depth, so the colours never look flat or synthetic.
6. What sizes do your bed covers come in?
Queen and king. In India, a standard double bed usually takes a queen. Our queen measures 92” x 108” and our king 108” x 108”
